LU KALA 



Lusamba Vanessa Kalala, better known by his stage name LU KALA, is a Congolese singer based in Toronto. Yeah, we are in our stealing from Dylan era. Born in Kinshasa, LU KALA emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 3. Kala performed at the Canadian Music Week in 2019 where she performed her debut single, "DCMO (Don't Count Me Out)". She also won the grand prize at Royal Bank of Canada's Emerging Musician Program, earning $10,000 worth of studio time among other prizes."DCMO (Don't Count Me Out)" was described as "powerful" by Complex. Kala's second single, "Body Knew", was praised by Unheard Gems and Sidedoor. Her third single, "Want You" also received good reviews from critics. Sidedoor described her 2020 single "No Smoke" as "upbeat, catchy, and empowering". In 2023, she managed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, with the song she'll perform at OAfSC 13 with Latto. The song itself is:

ZIMBABWE REVEALS OUR NEXT REPRESENTATIVE!




Harare, 7 April 2023 - Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation is thrilled to announce that  Rachel Chinouriri has been selected to represent Zimbabwe at the 14th Own Africavision Song Contest. We are extremely proud to have Rachel as our representative in this prestigious competition and are confident that she will make Zimbabwe proud.

Chinouriri was born in Kingston Hospital on 1 November 1998. Her family later moved to Croydon, where she was raised from age 3. Her family had moved to UK from Zimbabwe shortly prior to her birth, and she experienced a "traditional African upbringing". Her upbringing led her to be curious about British culture, specifically its music, and as a teenager, she became influenced by the discographies of Daughter and Lily Allen. At age 17, she began writing songs and recorded them on a £20 microphone, uploading them to the music sharing website SoundCloud via her mother's laptop.

We are excited to see Rachel perform on the Africavision stage and showcase her talent to a global audience. We have no doubt that she will deliver an exceptional performance that will be remembered for years to come.
The 14th Own Africavision Song Contest promises to be a night of music, celebration, and unity, and we are honored to be a part of it. We wish Rachel all the best as she prepares for the competition and look forward to cheering her on as she represents Zimbabwe with pride.

Her entry will be selected via closed internal selection.
