DANSER LA NUIT... In a bold move following the previous edition's setback, Belgium remains committed to the internal selection process for its representative in the North Vision Song Contest. Despite Sonayou's "Femme fatale" falling short of expectations, the Walloon broadcaster, undeterred, convened another professional commission to deliberate on the nation's next musical envoy. Breaking away from the recent trend, the commission has decided to reintroduce French to the stage, this time with a male soloist. The last time a man sang in French for Belgium was in the twenty-eighth edition, and the last time a male soloist represented the country was in the twenty-ninth edition—both instances resulted in non-qualifications. With the stakes high, the question now lingers: Can the newly chosen representative shatter the curse? With great anticipation, the Belgian entrant for the upcoming North Vision contest in Portugal was unveiled during a special evening show, sparking curiosity about whether this artistic choice will finally lift the curse and propel Belgium to success on the international stage.
Pierre de Maere is a young Belgian singer-songwriter who has been making waves in the music scene with his catchy electropop songs and his charismatic personality. He was born on May 24, 2001 in Uccle, a municipality of Brussels-Capital Region. He grew up in a musical family, as his father is a jurist and his mother is an architect, and his older brother Xavier is a sound engineer who works closely with him. He started composing music on his iPod touch when he was between 10 and 13 years old, using the GarageBand app. He never took any formal lessons in singing or music theory, but he learned to play the piano and the drums by himself. He was influenced by artists such as Lady Gaga, Stromae, Étienne Daho, Michel Polnareff, and Les Rita Mitsouko.
Pierre is not a stranger to the North Vision Song Contest, as he previously took part in Belfestival:36, the Belgian national selection, with his song Regrets. He placed fourth in the final. He then came back as a spokesperson for Belgium in the following edition of the contest, announcing the 12 points from the Belgian jury. He was a huge contender for representing his homeland for so long, and now he finally got his opportunity.
Mercredi is a song that expresses his fascination with the supernatural and the unknown. He sings about believing in ghosts, fairies, and seeing the dead dance at night. He also questions his sanity and reality, wondering if he is dreaming or awake. The song is part of his album Regarde-moi, which was released in January 2023. Mercredi was inspired by Pierre de Maere’s childhood memories of playing with his brother Xavier, who is also his producer and co-composer. The song reflects their imagination and curiosity, as well as their bond as siblings.

NORWEGIAN ENTRY REVEALED! Oslo, Norway • 12 November 2023 We are more than proud to present our next entry with the goal to make it to the Final again after 3 editions. She finally got her chance...
MOYKA • "REAR VIEW" Rear View is an honest reflection of Moyka’s journey since her debut album, a period where so struggled to find motivation and purpose which felt like a period of grief. Luckily, Moyka found her spark again in creating music and we are loving it. It’s a powerful return with stunning vocals and and infectious electronic production. About the song she says:
This was one of the first songs I knew I wanted on the record – because it’s a banger, you know?” says the Norwegian. “It’s a song about this kind of destructive love, when you can’t quite let go of someone. You’re still hoping to get back what you had by reducing yourself to only be in the rear view of someone’s life, convincing yourself ‘oh, it’s, it’s fine. I can still see the stars from here. You know, I’ll be here if you want’. I wanted to explore this crushing feeling in my music, cause that’s something I hadn’t done before. So it’s, yeah, it’s quite sad. But I love that combo of sad and mixed feelings and like, go dance and cry it out!
Written by Anders Kjaer, Sivert Hjeltnes Hagtvedt and Moyka herself - the official Norwegian entry in the North Vision Song Contest 42!
Chris Holsten ended up second, previous NVSC winners Gåte in the third place and Emilie Adams fourth. (2:00-)
