UPDATES September 24, 2017
I've become obsessed with "New Rules" as you can see.
GENERAL CHANGES
- I've made a change in font from Montserrat to Gotham
- I created a "General Discussion" thread for posting of information related to more generalized NNMC-related topics such as statistics, facts, and commentary on updates like this. Have fun with it!
- Albania and Denmark are now free. As for Croatia, despite news of the player withdrawing, the current player has decided to keep it instead.
RULES UPDATES
- You are allowed to take a one-edition break and keep the same country when you return from your break. Failure to promptly return will result in a strike. Bans do not count as part of your break.
- As of today, Liechtenstein is only allowed to borrow from Switzerland.
- Palestine is now allowed to participate in NNMC as a sovereign state.
- Participating countries will be called by their common name. That means as of today, Hong Kong SAR is now just Hong Kong.
- Simply displaying "inactive" or something similar in your username/signature is not enough be excused from voting. Other users manage to vote while they have "inactive" displayed in their username/sinature. It's not reliable. I consider you truly unable to vote if you show no signs of forum activity throughout the voting period. This is in addition to the other conditions of excusing yourself from voting.
- If you fail to vote in both the semis and the final, your country will become free to take by anyone.
- Dependent territories (see Wikipedia) are also eligible to participate... with conditions. They're explained below.
- FOR DEPENDENT TERRITORIES: Artists can represent a territory if they satisfy any one of these three conditions: They were born there; they are currently living there; or both parents are/were citizens from there.
- Winning sovereign states can propose to host in one of your dependent territories (if any).
- For winning dependent territories, it's a little more complicated. With the exception of Hong Kong, Macau, and Puerto Rico, which are big enough to organize their own contest independently, all hosting rights will go to their parent country. However, you are allowed to make negotiations.
LIFE UPDATE
I think it's important I announce this way in advance before I ruin anyone's NNMC plans in the future. This DECEMBER, my family has already planned to fly to the Philippines to celebrate Christmas and have one big family reunion. This is a really important trip to me as I haven't been to the Philippines since I left 9.5 years ago and I want to make the most of it.
With that said, I am announcing a hiatus from December 2017 through January 2018. I know that when I get back from Christmas vacation, it will be too late to set up for a January edition.
After the two-month hiatus (I hope it doesn't hurt too much), NNMC will most likely resume for the February 2018 edition.
If you're interested, you can take a look at the updated "RULES" page in the NNMC website.
I hope I said everything that needed to be said. If you have any questions, you can either PM me or post in the newly created "General Discussion" thread.
I'll open confirmations for #19 in a few hours.

WE'RE BAAAAACK! (almost)
Just a reminder that Jericho (Super inactive) is temporarily banned from participating in NNMC after getting his third strike. That means his previous country Mexico is free! I know a few users already eyeing that country. Can't wait to see who takes it!
After a worthwhile holiday, I've finally returned and settled back into regular life, so it's almost time for the regularly scheduled programming. NNMC will officially resume in February 2018. Confirmations will open January 25... for certain users. I WILL EXPLAIN!
Please read the whole post for highly important updates regarding... <<< NNMC Council | Participation Limit | Confirmations >>>
In the two months I've taken a break, I spent one of the months vacationing away, while in the other month, I've been thinking up ways to modify NNMC for the better. Some significant changes have been made, and this post will announce most of that.
To be honest, I don't know what the reception will be for these updates, but we tried our best.
Introducing the NowNewMusic Council
This idea was in my head for a while. I knew that as the contest continued to become more popular, help was needed to ensure this contest would continue to run smoothly without tiring myself out. In total, there are five users who are part of this council, myself included. These four people have been hand-picked to help me out in running the contest. The criteria? They must have been long-time participants (at least 15 editions) and they have shown dedication and support toward the contest.
Another main reason for the council? TO STOP DRAMA FROM GETTING OUT OF CONTROL . These people have displayed good sportsmanship and respectful attitudes throughout their time in NNMC. Basically, when I'm not online, they'll be there to relieve the tension. [sarcasm]I so totally encourage you all to start drama because that's what NNMC is best known for.[/sarcasm]
Other users were also considered. They weren't chosen because some have prior commitments to other contests, some have tendencies to be inactive, and others weren't as lucky.
And so without further ado, your NNMC council members are...
MaRtIn But you already know that. I make the important posts, designs, and videos. Tufkai Obviously. He's participated every edition, and regularly posts in the NNMC threads. He's also my rival I guess. In addition to moderating, he'll be working on updating the contest's Statistics to keep a record of many interesting things related to NNMC. He was easily my first pick, and so together, we determined the rest of the council members. Matilda Tufkai and I agreed on this. He's participated in 19 out of 20 editions. Plus, he has provided reasonable commentary about the contest. Luca is respectful, rational, level-head, and a veteran of the contest. Why wouldn't we select him? He'll be responsible for creating/updating taglists and creating the running order. Gregory (inactive) Another pick Tufkai and I agreed on easily. He's participated from the 4th edition onwards. Creator of the iconic "Who should represent Bulgaria?" bop , he has shown great enthusiasm for NNMC. Similar to Luca, he is not only rational and respectful, but he also cooperative and willing to help. He'll be helping me collect votes. 𝖱𝖠𝖣𝖤𝖰𝖰 Although not as active as most other users, the times he is active is mostly focused around NNMC (afaik). He has participated in 19 out of 20 editions as a dedicated player for his home country Poland. In addition, he built his own website exclusively on Poland's participation in NNMC. That's a hard thing to overlook. His interest in the contest would be beneficial for the council. He will assist Luca in making running orders. After seeing his Polish NNMC website, I knew that the official NNMC website needed improvement, and that's where he comes in as well. Congratulations to these four users! NNMC will be in a great direction with our combined efforts. I hope this internal selection is met with respect by everyone. I don't see any problem coming from this.
The Hard Parts
PARTICIPATION LIMIT
So the most heavily discussed topic within the most recent editions has been the massive turnout of users wanting to participate in this contest. Some users demanded that a limit be put in place to ensure a fair ratio of qualifiers. Yes, there was the poll months ago, but opinions may have shifted as the contest grew to 70 unique users. At this point, the most countries I can do for a Grand Final is 30. Eliminating a majority of entries in the semis (34/64 semi-finalists eliminated in Ed. #20) has brought concerns. The decision came down to my personal interest. I love running this contest, but I can't love it too much because I also have other things to prioritize. The council was one way to alleviate that. Another way is this. We will have a limit. To be more specific... 60is the magic number. It's still huge (which I like), but there's some control now. This could also filter out filler entries and put more focus on quality over quantity. I guess now I can explain the format. Automatic qualification will now be reserved to the TOP 3, starting in the 21st edition. That means this coming edition, only Armenia, Slovenia, and Brazil are eligible AQ. Sorry Spain, Macedonia, and Belgium. Ideally, with 60 countries, there will be three semi-finals of 19 countries each. 9 countries from each semi will advance (whether the RotW vote/save will be in use isn't solid yet). The semis will effectively eliminate half of the field, while the other half is all finalists.
CONFIRMATIONS
So now that we have a limit, it would be so chaotic if hundreds of forumers scrambled to secure one of 60 spots to participate. The flow of confirmations will be controlled. Here's the schedule: January 25 | confirmations are open only for the + top 25 users (REFER HERE)January 26 | confirmations are opened to all other NNMC #20 finalistsJanuary 27 | the bloodbath - NNMC #20 non-finalists + everyone else can confirm --------------- February 1 | last day to join/submit entries The justification is to help new users which experienced success keep their opportunity for continued success and maintain the activity and success of long-time participants. It may seen awkward, but we're still trying to be somewhat open to new users. I guess this is a good time to bring up that there won't be a waiting list. Any user who missed out may still have a chance to participate as part of the RotW (how is uncertain yet). Once you are allowed to confirm, you have to POST in the thread to have a valid confirmation. Additionally, you have to POST at least a URL of you entry, no other methods accepted. Submitting your entry via PM is not allowed anymore, but you are allowed to ask for approval or verification that way. It's just not the official method. Reserving countries/songs via PM is also not allowed. In terms of how this affects National Selections... for now, you can still start an NS anytime you want as long as you're keeping the same country. You just need to make sure that once you're allowed to confirm, you have to POST. A simple " I confirm" or "[country] confirms" is enough. (Then maybe later you can edit it and make it fancy or something.)
Most other rules stay the same. REFER HERE FOR THE FULL SET OF RULES. It's not up to date, so if any rules in the webpage contradict with what is mentioned in this post, disregard that.
What do you think? You can reply at the GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD for any questions, comments, and concerns (I guarantee there is). Running a contest this big gets complicated, so any rational feedback would be helpful.
I think those are all the drastic changes I needed to address and get out of the way. Other changes will be mentioned as we gear up for the newest edition.
These changes will be implemented starting in the 21st edition, but change is a universal constant, so what is mentioned here may not apply in the future. There will probably be unforeseen circumstances, so they will be addressed when the situation arises.
If I forgot to mention anything that I should've mentioned, I'll update you all in the General Discussion thread.
RETURN OF THE TAGLIST:
ALSO TAGGING PEOPLE WHO SHOWED INTEREST IN PARTICIPATING:
IF YOU WEREN'T TAGGED BUT YOU ALSO SHOWED INTEREST TO PARTICIPATE, I'M SORRY. THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO I REMEMBERED.

23 July 2018
*pretend this is the council and there's five of us*
NNMC is changing it up a bit. The NNMC council has collectively decided on these decisions. Let’s cut to the chase!
A BIG MOVE
Starting with NNMC #27, the confirmation period will begin on the first day of the month. The main reasoning behind this is to help people avoid last-minute additions to their National Selections. It also maximizes the potential pool of entries whether you select internally or through a National Selection without the hassle of changing to something you think is better, preventing last-minute confusions. The confirmation period will still last a week long, enough time to organize a quick-ish National Selection for those who decide on one.
So for the August 2018 edition, confirmations open on 01 August 2018. Only entries from June-July 2018 will be accepted. No entries released in August 2018 are allowed in NNMC #27. I need to clear that up.
In the past, Day 1 and Day 2 of confirmations were exclusive to the Top 25 users and the previous edition’s finalists respectively. That’s not the case anymore. On Day 1, both Top 25 users and the previous edition’s finalists are allowed to confirm at once. This means on Day 2, everyone else is allowed to confirm. Hopefully, this encourages more urgency to claim one of those 57 desired spots.
SUBMISSIONS
Because of complications during the last edition concerning Norway and Turkmenistan, some clarification of the rules needed to happen.
BOTH Internally selected entries and entries selected through a National Selection must be posted in the edition’s thread. This is mandatory. Otherwise, the user must have an excuse as to why they couldn't post their NS winner when the deadline passes. It will make it convenient for me, the video maker, to see all entries in one thread. A PM is still not a sufficient method for submission. Optionally, you can still PM all council members if you are looking for approval. This rule goes for both the confirmed participants and users on Standby.
Additionally, we are making it a requirement to post your timeslot along with your submitted entry for the video maker’s convenience, whether you’re a participant, hosting a NS, or on Standby. We'll continuously enforce this until everyone complies.
SUPPORT BANNERS
I’m trying to lighten the load in what I’m working with in NNMC. With that said, I will not be making support banners anymore. The obligation was passed on to 𝖱𝖠𝖣𝖤𝖰𝖰 . However, the support banners will not always be guaranteed. Radek can only make support banners if he gets the time to do it, so depending on his personal schedule, he may or may not have support banners for certain editions. Additionally, support banners must be requested.
I know a lot of you like the support banners I make, but you won’t be disappointed with the banners Radek will make (when he gets to make them). Just let 𝖱𝖠𝖣𝖤𝖰𝖰 know when confirmations open if you're interested in a support banner.
So really, these changes are just logistical. Additionally, I am also in the middle of overhauling the rulebook to be more specific and clear. We hope these changes are for the better. If you have any questions, ask away in the General Discussion thread.
Thank you, and see you in August!

I couldn't find a GIF of "Kaddesh" online, so I went for a GIF from "In the Water."
NEW COUNCIL MEMBER
He asked, we answered. A month ago, this individual asked the NNMC Council if he could join and help out in organizing this fast-moving monthly contest. After discussion among all council members, the overall decision would be in favor for the addition of a sixth council member. Before I go any further, I'm sure you'd like to know who this person this. Well, it's none other than...
Wysteria Welcome to the NNMC Council. Here's your formal welcome. We hope you can contribute to the contest and help make every edition happen. Despite his history with the contest coming in significantly later than the other five members and barely scraping the bottom of the Top 25, it was difficult to overlook his initiative and willingness to help run the contest. When he approached us, we weren't sure what he would be able to do for the contest, but he suggested a role that could lighten the load for the rest of the council members. Vukasin's main role in the council will be to proof artists and entries. He will make sure that every entry is eligible (meaning released in the appropriate time frame) and every artist is eligible to represent a country. It doesn't mean that all entries must be approved by PM. He'll patrol the contest thread and make sure that every entry posted is eligible. He will also check the National Selection threads to verify if all entries are appropriate to the contest eligibility rules. Otherwise, he'll probably tag/quote you asking questions and stuff. So, the number of council members is an even number, so any important decision-making could end up as a tie. If ever a tie comes up between us, the council will figure out how to break the tie, but for now, it's not that important. We'll see once it happens.
What do you think of this decision? Let us know in the GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD.

01 November 2018
#TBT to when South Africa sent this song in Edition #08 back in 2016. My Halloween costume was a "little white lie" and I thought of this song. That's why this is featured in this post.
NNMC WILL TAKE A BREAK AFTER #30
NNMC will be taking a break after the 30th edition. Sorry for ruining any plans in advance. We will not have a December 2018 edition so this November will be the last one of 2018. I've gotten attached to only having ten editions per year, and I think it's better that way so that the council and I can step away from NNMC for a while to re-evaluate and re-organize the contest. It's also the holiday season and I would personally like to have some personal time IRL at this time of year. This also gives us time to update everything concerning the contest and prepare us for the eventual return. This break period away from the main contest will also be used to organize the 3rd annual Song of the Year event (and possibly others?).
Establishing the NNMC council is probably the best move ever made for this contest since everyone in it (Tufkai , Gregory (inactive) , Matilda , 𝖱𝖠𝖣𝖤𝖰𝖰 , Wysteria , and of course me, MaRtIn ) has helped so much in keeping this contest running and enduring through all the dramas and messes encountered, especially in the first half of the year. Thank you for coming along in this experience.
We hope that when NNMC returns in 2019 for the 31st edition, it'll be better than ever.
NNMC #30 WILL OPEN 02 NOVEMBER
Because of circumstances related to Bas getting his third strike and effectively removing his participation in #30, edition #29 winner Netherlands has a vacant HoD spot. The NNMC council has discussed heavily on how to deal with the situation, and we have made a decision. This update will be given by another council member later today.
Fortunately, as #30 is intended to be the last edition of 2018, the schedule of events can be pushed forward by some amount of days, so that includes the opening of the edition. NNMC #30 confirmations for the top 25 users and the direct finalists will open 02 November 2018. I apologize for the short notice and I take full responsibility for the decision on behalf of the council.
The edition itself will still run as normal.
Got any thoughts? Let us know in the GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD.

ANNOUNCING: NNMC INFO BOARD
NNMC Participation, Placements, and more
Hello everyone! Pardon the interruption during #47 - did you vote in your semifinal yet?
The NNMC Council is well-aware that we've been without a website for almost a year, and our planned Wiki was lost at about 90% completion. After working on it for several months, nobody feels compelled to try again.
We know that makes it really hard to get historical information about your country, or your placements, or other interesting statistics.
So...we are proud to share with you all an information board that, well, contains information! You can learn about how many times each country has participated, who participated with it, the place they got in that edition (either in the semifinals or Grand Final), and much more. Did you know that 141 unique countries, states, and regions have participated in NNMC thus far?
We hope to add more tabs that contain more information. Possibly links to every song that has participated, as well as anecdotal information (such as the lowest overall score of any edition, most Top 10s in a row, and so forth).
This is the precursor to another ongoing project: a full list of each song with its points scored, that can be dynamically grouped by country or by edition. It's really cool. At the time of writing this, we have completed editions 1-16.
If you believe there are any errors in this board, or if you have any questions, please post them in the General Discussion thread or in the NNMC Discord channel.
Thank you, and enjoy!

ONE LAST UPDATE! 31 December 2020
INTRODUCING THE NNMC DATABASE
[CLICK THE IMAGE ABOVE TO ENTER. I HOPE IT WORKS!]
I have one more surprise before 2020 is wrapped up.
Last year, the NNMC Council was hard at work building a Wiki that was going to contain all information related to NNMC. The Wiki was going to be attached to the SCF's web domain. However, tragedy struck when the forum experienced a crash so severe that it virtually destroyed everything related to the Wiki, including the NNMC Wiki. It was almost ready to be published at the time when the crash happened. I was distraught, and I lost a lot of motivation to make a new Wiki. However, we owe it to AussieSwarm & Fatih for creating and building up a new Wiki, and it's about time more recognition is made. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to make it. I hope I can make it a lot easier for you with this new thing I'm about to introduce.
Since the first Wiki vanished last year, I've been looking for new and easy ways to compile all information related to NNMC into... something! Doing the Wiki coding was not it. It was too tedious for me, someone who already organizes an edition a month. Trying to re-build a new Wiki would become time-consuming as I also have new priorities to take on outside the forum as well. Fortunately, with some quick learning and tinkering around with Google Sheets, I've done it!
The NNMC Database is a super-spreadsheet of sorts. This is something of an upgrade from what Gregory was doing with the Info Board (except the part about the users). It's a compilation of every entry that has ever been in NNMC, and I mean every entry, including Song of the Year and Second Chance Contest entries (each in their own tabs). There's instructions on how to use the spreadsheet effectively on the first tab if you're feeling overwhelmed. Just follow those instructions, and you should be able to familiarize yourself in no time. I'm the only person editing its contents, so if you catch any mistakes and/or have any questions/comments/concerns, reach out to me in a PM (forum/Discord) or post in the General Discussion thread.
I think this database has room to expand. In the future, I want to include data about users and possibly do something with rankings, but for now, you can just enjoy being able to peruse through every NNMC entry in every edition ever. AussieSwarm and Fatih , I hope making the Wiki will be easier with this. Having both the spreadsheet and the Wiki will be beneficial in terms of accessibility. And hopefully, having these as solid references will prevent another Netherlands 50 incident.
Both links to the NNMC Database and the NNMC Wiki will be added into the first post of the General Discussion thread as well.
COUNCIL UPDATE
Earlier this month, I messaged Matilda about her interest in NNMC as she had been very inactive in the contest for a long time. She responded that she has lost interest in participating. She mentioned that she loved helping out in the past, but that sitting out for a while did not bring back her interest. With that said, we say farewell to Matilda as part of the NNMC Council. Thank you Matilda for having stuck around since the very beginning of NNMC's history and helping to make NNMC the contest that it is now.
Right now, there's no plans to make any changes to the council.
Finally, on behalf of the NNMC Council... HAPPY NEW YEAR!
See you in 2021!
