Internal Selection for Monaco! Due to budget and time constraints (I procrastinated for too long and now Im busy with Uni) the Monegasque broadcaster decided to change its plans, opting for another internal selection instead of using a national selection like last edition. The delegation decided to use the submissions for a national selection and picked the entry they liked the most to represent Monaco at the 41st North Vision Song Contest. And the entry is:
NOVEMBER ULTRA - NOVEMBRE
November Ultra got her start as the singer of the band Agua Roja. Following the split of the band, she started writing her own material, recording it in the comfort of her own bedroom. While working on her own music she also collaborated with artists such as Claire Laffut and Barbara Pravi. She released her first singles under her new stage name in late 2021, followed up by a complete debut album in 2022. Part of said album is the song Novembre, a song that not only because of that title is one of her most personal ones, dealing with the feelings of homesickness and loneliness. Despite the French title, the song is fully in English.

i am back in my old home. R U REALLY OK will be sung by Fraeulein Astrid in Graz! r u really ok? i was just wondering 'cus it doesn't look that way. Fraeulein Astrid (pronounced like 'fräulein') is an indie singer-songwriter that calls three locations her home: Frohnleiten in central Styria, Graz just south of it, and now Vienna, after having moved to the capital a few years back. Astrid is well-known in the local music scene of Graz, active for a long time and posting her music on YouTube and Soundcloud. Recently, she made the move to publish her songs on Spotify, gaining some wider attention. Written in the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic, the song describes the anxieties and pressures one has, how the walls can feel like they come down to suffocate you, and elaborate on the feeling of home-coming - particularly about Astrid's birth-town, Frohnleiten, which is just north of Graz. this entry is really close to me. even if i didn't think she would win the selection, i'm very glad about it. i may not personally know astrid myself (yet??) but i know her from two corners and was introduced to her by a former colleague, and she is also a friend of a close real-life friend of mine. i've known her artistry for many years, even before taking over austria in nvsc. there's true weight to her impact on the music scene in graz, so for her to represent austria, in graz, even if it's just an online contest, feels just right.
astrid has been hyped about possibly being chosen as the entry, and i'm sure she'll be thrilled to see how it goes from there. make sure to check out her socials
♡
expectations of how you're supposed to look & act wanting to be different, but also wanting to fit in

After a month long voting process, 31 countries voted in the selection and gave to the winner a total amount of 251 points, including 7 sets of 12 points. With a margin of 30 points, Izi Bejb and Ledri Vula rounded out the top 3.

Katarina Dumančić, known professionally as Kali, is a talented and innovative singer-songwriter who performed publicly for the first time at the age of 11. Back then, she auditioned for "Ja imam talenat" with the song "Je ne regrette rien" by Edith Piaf and impressed the juries. In 2021, she signed an exclusive contract with Balkaton, one of the biggest record labels in the Balkans.
Written entirely by Kali herself, "Crna Magija" ("Black Magic") is her debut single: a fresh mix of R&B, Afro and Latin fusion inspired by Kali's love for the apocalyptic Yugoslav rock scene in a whole new modern package.

ⵍⵎⵖⵔⵉⴱ ⵍⴰ ⴷ-ⵢⴻⵜⵜⴰⵡⵉ ⵜⵉⵃⵍⴰⵡⵜ ⵜⴰⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖⵜ!! Morocco is bringing the Berber flavour! Casablanca, Casablanca-Settat, 16 June 2023
Tasuta N-Imal in a promotional photo for the Maghrebi Music Festival, where they competed with their song “Fadma” From left to right: Redouan Ourabeh (percussion), Abdelali Elyaloubi (percussion), Hasan Amzil (vocals), Abdessamad Amzil (guitar), Abdelakrim Aynaz (guitar), Smail Khalis (bass)
Following the conclusion of an incredibly competitive national final, the group that took the title in the Moroccan section of the national final was none other than the band Tasuta N-Imal. The sextet, which consists of vocalist Hasan Amzil, bassist Smail Khalis, percussionists Redouan Ourabeh and Abdelali Elyaloubi, and guitarists Abdessamad Amzil and Abdelakrim Aynaz. The members grew up in the city of Boumalne Dades in the province of Drâa-Tafilalet, which is in the south of the nation. The group performs exclusively in Tamazight, which will mark the first time the language will ever appear at North Vision. The band cites artists like Tinariwen, Bombino and Ali Farka Touré as their main inspirations for their sound, which has been described as a combination of desert blues and rock and they call "Young Atlas Highlander Music", while also listing artists like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Bob Marley, Scorpions and Youssou N'Dour as further inspirations. The group will fly the Moroccan flag in Austria thanks to their song "Fadma."
Redouan Ourabeh describes "Fadma" as "'an old love story that happened for real in our village and we’ve entitled this song Fadma, it’s a woman’s name… We want to show the world this story, and the value and importance of the existence of the Amizigh woman. The woman suffers in this love story. It’s a tribute to honour her.'" The song, which is fully in Tamazight, follows that story in the music video, which was shot just outside their hometown.
In an interview with 2M, Redouan said that representing Morocco at an international stage like this "is a dream come true. For six guys from the highlands of Morocco to showcase our culture to this wide of an audience is an honour that we never could've imagined. Our ancestors are incredibly proud of us, and regardless of how we place, we have already won."
Morocco in the 41st North Vision Song Contest Tasuta N-Imal - "Fadma" (3:37+) Music & Lyrics: Tasuta N-Imal, Lahcen Ait Saadane, Fatima Orty
We want to wish Tasuta N-Imal the best of luck in Austria. We hope you'll support the group in NVSC!

I will neverNEVERneverNEVERnever know
On 25th June 2023, the first edition of Maghrebi Music Fest has ended, meaning 3 northern african nations found their enterants for the 41st edition of NorthVision Song Contest in Austria. One of those nations, obviously, was us. We are more than pleased about the positive reception of our songs, which boosts up our hopes for a warm welcoming of Egypt after years of absense. Yasmine Dubois who goes by the stage name of Lafawndah is a singer/songwriter/producer who spend most of her time living in Paris. Her music can be described as more off-the-grid, mixing genres such as UK bass, deconstructed club, art pop and alternative R&B. If you like artists such as Eartheater, Sevdaliza or early Shygirl and Sega Bodega, her stuff is for you.Uniform

It's time to follow your Instincts with Czechia! After a successful edition of NVSCZ and a subsequent qualification for the Final last time, Česká televize decided to organise the selection again, in hopes that the music competition would also act as a catalyst to boost the local music scene. Head of Delegation Julius Horváth stated that the show has generated considerable interest this time too, and the live broadcast reached over 500,000 viewers.
Similarly to the previous selection, the chosen song won the voting by a considerable margin, having secured 36% of the overall votes, ahead of the runner-up who collected 20%.
Without further ado, the song representing Czech Republic is...Best of luck to all countries from Czechia, and may the best entry win!
