South Kordom makes strong impression in first match
South Kordom played their first CFA World Cup match, and has shown they are not to be underestimated. The interland against the experienced Rainbow Islands was perfectly outbalanced, apart from just one goal in favour of the Islands.
The match was a feast for the soccer lover. Both teams played as if their lives depended on it, making a lot of effort in order to keep the adversary away from their gate. We saw several glorious chances at goal, most of them being blocked magnificently. There were too many qualitatively great actions to describe every single one of them, so let us show you the best of the best.
In the 13th minute, Leif Viggo tried (and failed) to fumble the ball into the Rainbow Islands' goal using outstanding footwork - Julian McDonald's toes were just an inch too long. Six minutes later, Lucas Martin kicked the ball into the Kordanese goal from a distance of near 80 ft.
The Kordanese weren't even a little shocked, and in the 30th minute, Sigurd Maria almost managed to make the score level again by a marvellous overhead kick, which unfortunately ended in the crossbar. At the verge of half-time, Maria was really close to scoring again - his kick ended up just a foot or two to the right side of the goalpost.
In the 55th minute, Peter Flynn's header after a corner kick was caught by Alexander Smith, the Kordanese goalkeeper. Twenty minutes later, Viggo tried to score from a troublesome angle and almost succeeded - McDonalds' toes stood in the way of Kordanese success once more. In injury time, the Rainbow Islands were scared to death as Finn Harvey finally headed the ball into the Islands' goal... but it was offside.
