Neptune v Las Islas de Los SantosGroup C *** Wednesday 29 April 18.00 *** Mountain Arena, Mavrica *** Referee: William Mulligan ✨💃 v europezgal08A Winter quarter final in rewind: Neptune vs. Las Islas de Los Santos. Ten weeks and two days earlier, in Leranograd’s Talis Arena, Las Islas had dominated all the way, unfortunately without scoring, until the red card for their captain Bernardo Cruz, which had culminated in Neptune taking over and scoring twice. Of course, Las Islas were out for revenge for that damper, but revenge required scoring, which turned out to be just as hard as the previous time. The crossbar, the goalposts and the fists of Neptune goalkeeper Norbert Rowe were cursed many times, but Las Islas were relieved by Angel González’ goal in the second minute of the first half’s injury time… offside. Las Islas were preparing for another deception after a classic combined action by the Neptunians João Oliveira Goncalves and Jakub Žůrek in the 51st minute, which resulted in the latter scoring. But the damage remained limited, as Neptune took it easy this night and let Las Islas take the initiative. This time, Jonas Schmidt was close to scoring in the 74th minute, but his stone-hard shot from a distance of 32 metres was narrowly slapped away by Rowe. Las Islas held their breaths in the 90th minute, for their defender Pierre Roux brutally brought down Goncalves at the very border of the penalty area. Luckily (to them), Mulligan wasn’t really paying attention and didn’t give the Neptunians the privilege of a penalty kick, yet rewarded Roux with a yellow card. And so the result was less painful to Las Islas than in February, but still a 1-0 victory for the defending champion.

flagparola Parola v flagpanacer PanacerGroup C *** Wednesday 29 April 21.00 *** Arena of Keskesor, flagrainbowislands Keskesor *** Referee: flagjaponicana Wang Vansen flagparola willsong v flagpanacer CallumYet another debutant derby. The first hour didn’t feature any noteworthy actions, so we’ll move on to the 63rd minute, in which Panacer striker Nicanor Neri was suddenly facing only Parola goalkeeper Rico Fritzko, but was running at such a high speed that he literally ran him down. This was the wake-up call for both teams, and only eight minutes later Parola midfielder Ed Smith by-passed the Panacéré defense and scored. This event doubled the Panacéré combativeness, and they practically flew at the Parolan throats, who weren’t happy that Panacer got just one yellow card, for Neri after an atrocious tackle on Parola striker Eduard Neva. But no red cards or penalty kicks were given, and so the game ended with a simple 1-0.

flagusof United States of Flowers v flagerezinhalla Erezin Halla
Group D *** Thursday 30 April 18.00 *** Friends Arena, flagrainbowislands Vikerkaar *** Referee: flagfalconisland Carl Brettich flagusof Sel v flagerezinhalla LlemianAnother Winter quarter final in rewind: Erezin Halla vs. the United States was famous for its abundance of goals, with 3-3 after 90 minutes and 5-5 after 120. Erezin striker Charlie Shallot made a hattrick, yet became the doormat of the month by missing the only penalty in the series and thereby spoiling his country’s aspirations on reaching the semi-final. This time the start wasn’t as promising as two months earlier (with two goals in the first 15 minutes), even though it featured 22 energetic and potential players, who were all fixed on winning this match. Still, the first goal was only scored after almost half an hour, when Erezin Halla striker Martin Versheen escaped on the right wing of the field and delivered a nice cross-pass to his colleague Murphy Owens, who shot it right past the bewildered goalkeeper Vincent Henderson. The United States engaged in a counteroffensive, and levelled the score far into the first half’s injury time, with striker Reginald Fox heading Hugh Coleman’s free kick into the goal. The second half was nothing like the first, as there was less passing, much more running, and no real chances. This caused fatigue to kick in, and 25 minutes after the break the United States had already consumed two of their three substitutions (and Erezin Halla one). The fresh players unfortunately didn’t bring the action back, and the game slowly came to an end with still 1-1 on the board.

Antalorgia v Luir-Landodios
Group D *** Thursday 30 April 21.00 *** Sateenkari Stadium, Sateenkari *** Referee: Björn Gribskov @slotermayer37 v LuiriWho doesn’t remember? Antalorgia, host nation of the first edition, yet unable to score and thereby dropping out in the group stage already? Yes, that same Antalorgia was now about to return to the World Cup, as one of the underdogs - they’ve been last in their own betting odds since the very beginning. Luir-Landodios, one of their closest friends, was meanwhile making its debut at the World Cup, with a promising line-up and a large number of enthusiastic supporters. They’d completely flatten the Antalorgians and win with a huge lead, wouldn’t they? Let’s spoil it already: no, they wouldn’t! Despite the dull first half, which only saw Lavrenty Dyatlov getting a yellow card in the 11th minute already for diving into an aerial challenge with John Mulkin a little too violently and Luir-Landodios dominating all the way through yet not scoring on account of interventions by the opposing defenders, it was Antalorgia that took the lead through a clumsy own goal by Luir defender Vincent Tromainto in the 51st minute: Antalorgia midfielder Bogdan Avalov took a corner kick, Luir goalkeeper Alexandro Almaty tried to clear it away, shot the ball right into Tromainto’s back and saw it rebounding into his own goal, marking the first ever time Antalorgia took a lead. The Landodians then died of shame, Tromainto and Almaty the most, and tried to make up for it, which succeeded eleven minutes after the own goal that flabbergasted the world, as Mulkin delivered a long cross-pass to striker Matthew Fantistiska, who kicked the ball right over the head of Miroslav Krazimyov, the Antalorgian keeper, and into the goal. 1-1. The tension kept building as the 90th minute approached. Antalorgia surprisingly took the initiative, yet had to watch out for Luir-Landodios’ dangerous outbreaks. Finally, in the 86th minute, it was Tinö Elskaarku who killed off the Antalorgian dreams of finally NOT losing a World Cup match by easily scoring out of a short-distance pass by Taran Seroi. Antalorgia managed a final offensive, substitute Viktor Denisov even by-passed Almaty, but Denisov was forced to shoot from such a narrow angle that his shot bounced off the goalpost.

Rainbow Islands v South KordomGroup A *** Friday 1 May 18.00 *** Arconbé Stadium, Arconbé *** Referee: Lars Olaf Nilsson Julian v MattIs there anyone who can explain why all matches take so long to become interesting lately? The first piece of action in the Rainbow Islands vs. South Kordom came in the 50th minute, with Rainbow Islands midfielder Lucas Martin, the holy terror of the Kordanese in their mutual match in the Winter edition, only just missing his free kick. South Kordom immediately reacted with strong counterattacks, and in the 62nd minute, Rainbow goalkeeper Kevin Murk had to stretch himself out completely to keep David Lucas from scoring. But Murk saved the Rainbow day only temporarily, it seemed two minutes later, because Mateo Jun slalommed through the defence and lobbed the ball perfectly over his head. The arrears for the host country was unexpected at least, and so the Islands attacked with double the force. Within ten minutes, they had consumed all their substitutions, and South Kordom didn’t have any say in the progress of the match anymore. The score remained 0-1 nonetheless, thanks to the solid defence of the Kordanese. Finally, in the final phase of the game, Rainbow midfielder Lucas Martin headed the ball onto the crossbar, and striker Marc Highberg missed in the rebound.flagrainbowislands 0 - 1 flagsouthkordom

flagdasmia Dasmia v flagescogrecia EscogreciaGroup A *** Friday 1 May 21.00 *** Beach Stadium, flagrainbowislands Kanevedenn *** Referee: flagdepressivestate Thomas Johnson flagdasmia Blandine v flagescogrecia ApostolisThis may well have been the most exciting Spring match so far. Knowing that the loser of this game would be eliminated from the tournament, both Dasmia and Escogrecia entered the pitch with their strongest players. In the beginning, Escogrecia prevailed, yet didn’t manage to come close to scoring, but after some twenty-five minutes the Dasmians took over and really put goalkeeper Oonagh Markus to the test. Dima Rybak scored in injury time, but that wouldn’t matter to the forthcoming Dasmian victory march, would it? Yep, it would. Despite some nice attempts on goal, headers, long shots and free kicks, Dasmia didn’t manage to score. In the second half’s injury time Rybak was close to a goal again, but his shot missed the gate by only a few centimetres. Although the Dasmian anguish wasn’t aggravated in the last few minutes, they are still eliminated.
